{Portraits} Emma!

I had the opportunity to take pictures of the gorgeous Emma yesterday. She is a natural model, and so it was really fun to get to take these for her! We managed to drive around to three locations, change outfits three times, and still have enough time to snap some photos in the hour and a half that we had together.
I just spotted this ivy covered wall a couple of days ago, and knew that I wanted to take some there! It is such a beautiful backdrop to accompany such a stunning girl!

{Missionary} Matt!

I'm so glad this kid asked me to take his mission pictures! We were in the same AP Environmental Science class and it was so much fun. I am so glad he made the decision to serve the Lord for two years! He will be such a good missionary!

{Missionary} Tanner!

This kid is leaving on his mission in two days! It's crazy to see all of my brother's friends leave to do the work of the Lord. I'm so proud of his decision to serve so soon after he graduated! He will be such a great missionary!

{Portraits} The Frisbys!

I was so happy when Sister Frisby asked me to take her pictures! I love any opportunity to grab my camera and have a fun night. We were battling the rain and clouds, but we eventually found the perfect place for our pictures. It was so much fun just walking around and taking photos! We were on a pretty busy street, so people were honking at us taking pictures which is so funny! I love it.

Mango Nectarine Smoothie!

Honestly, this has to be one of the best smoothies I have ever had! It combines two of my favorite fruits: mangoes and nectarines. Sometimes, I'll just eat them straight up, but sometimes I like to drink them in the form of a smoothie.

There is just something about smoothies in the summer time. There are so many fresh fruits and so many possibilities! I love all kinds of smoothies, but this has to be my favorite.

Pinterest has to be one of my favorite websites. We had some mangoes that were about to go bad, and so we just looked up a mango smoothie and this is what we found! It tastes so delicious and it is SO easy to make!

As you may know, I am in the marching band at American Fork High School. This year we are going to nationals in Indiana, and next year we are performing in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. All of those trips have taken a hefty tole on our budget (about $4000 total) , and so we have come up with this ingenious fundraiser!
If you live in Utah, Arizona, Idaho, or Nevada all you have to do is fill out a form detailing your contact information and insurance provider, and you will be able to help me out!
The student that referred you is myself, or Kiana Bates.

Your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!!

PS. If you didn't know, I'm selling Steel Days breakfast tickets as well! On July 20th, the band has a breakfast with food provided by Fresh Market where family and friends can eat before the parade! It is only $5 for adults (12yrs and older) and $2.50 for children (3-11yrs). It is from 6:30-9:30am. If you would like to get tickets, feel free to email me at kianatbates@hotmail.com.

{Missionary} Cameron!

Cameron has been one of my brother's best friends since I can remember! We were all in marching band together and he was such a good example. I am so excited for him to serve a mission in Korea! He will be such a good missionary.

here's to summer

Yesterday was quite the day.

The whole trumpet section came over to eat breakfast and watch DCI (drum corps international) shows! We had more than 3/4 of the section there. It was so much fun! We ate lots of pancakes, eggs, fruit, and bacon! There were seven packages of bacon at the beginning, and none at the end. I guess that's what happens when you have mostly guys in your section.

We finished eating and watched lots of DCI shows. We watched Peter in Phantom Regiment, of course! Some of our favorites are Cadets in 2011, Phantom Regiment in 2008, and Cadets in 2010. They are such good shows!

After that party ended, I was able to relax until the next party that evening! We had lots of Pete's friends over to watch his show and talk him on the phone. Since all of them are leaving on their missions before he gets home, we wanted them to be able to see his show and have a good time together. It was really fun to see all of them again! It was kind of a bummer that Peter wasn't there, but he was there in our hearts!

the start of something big

To be honest, these people mean the world to me. (plus the ones not pictured) We have already endured a week-long band camp, many practices, and parties. We have sweated, laughed, and been totally exhausted together. Our section has already gotten so close in the two months that we have been together.

I have to keep reminding myself that this is it. Finals starts now. We can't start being intense at the very end of the season. The intensity starts now. The more that we give now, the more we take out later.

I want to leave the field after our performance with no regrets. This show isn't just for us; it's for all the people who have been supporting us since day one. Our wonderful staff, Mr Miller, and the great seniors who have been through it all to make sure that we look and sound amazing. We owe it to them to give our best the whole season this year.

I am so excited to see how we improve and how much closer we can become. I love these beautiful people so much!
