Chocolate and Orange Meltaways!

Just be warned, it takes about 5 hours total to make :)

Chocolate and Orange Meltaways:

You will need:
Inside:
 ~ 2 C (12 oz.) Premier White Chips
 ~ 1/2 C (1stick) unsalted butter (do NOT substitute margarine)
 ~ 1/3 C whipping cream (I used heavy, because it was cheaper. Take your pick)
 ~ 1 1/2 tsp orange extract (you can use any fruit extract that you like!)
 ~ 1/2 tsp shortening (do NOT use butter, margarine, spread, or oil)
Chocolate Coating:
 ~ 8 oz. pure milk chocolate
 ~ 1 tsp shortening (do NOT use butter, margarine, spread, or oil)


1. Line tray with wax paper. Reserve 2 tablespoons of white chips
 

2. Combine butter and whipping cream in medium saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring constantly until mixture comes to a full rolling boil. Remove from heat; immediately add remaining white chips. Whisk until smooth (I used a hand mixer -  it was way faster ). Add orange extract. Blend well.

3. Refrigerate until firm enough to handle (about 1 hour) .



4. Taking small amounts of the mixture at a time, shape into 1" balls.


5. Place on prepared tray, and refrigerate until firm (about 1 1/2 hours)

6. Prepare chocolate coating.
Place 8 oz (broken into little pieces) of milk chocolate in microwave-safe bowl with 1 tsp shortening. Microwave at medium 2 minutes, or adding an additional 30 seconds each time, stirring after heating, until chocolate is smooth when stirred.
7. Place about 4 balls into bowl of chocolate. Stir, making sure each piece is coated. Use a fork to move the piece from the bowl to the tray. Wipe of excess chocolate. Place on tray. Repeat with remaining candies.

8. Place in fridge to set (about 1 hour)


9. Place reserved 2 tablespoons white chips and shortening in microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at medium for 30 seconds. Stir. If necessary, microwave an additional 10 seconds or until mixture is smooth when stirred. With a spoon, lightly drizzle over candies. Repeat.
*If you are feeling ambitious, you can try and make letters, or designs with the mixture. Just remember, it will harden! *

10. Let the candies set (either in fridge, or not) for about 20 minutes. Cover, store in fridge.
